It had been quite simple jay had found, to set up an appointment with the mayor to view a property. As simple really as managing to find their office and simply requesting it upfront. Tranquil was a rather... small place it seemed, both in terms of its society and in terms of it's physical size. Not many people lived here yet, though there was a homey and country sort of air to it. The island definitely seemed big enough to wander and to get away from the small village if needed to, he imagined he could cross it end to end in a couple days hard hiking, though perhaps the mountains might prove a bit more trouble. Still, it was... nice, if his view from the boat coming in and his brisk walk through the village itself had been any judge of things.
Really, it was quiet though. Even the village itself was spread out with lots of empty land or farmland set between residencies and shops or other buildings of notice, and the farmland itself only accentuated this space and peacefulness. The presence of a dark thick wood and the ever present ocean that bordered the village and around the outskirts of the island were both additional comforts and points of interest, the raw wilderness of nature still very much intact and around them. He could smell the rich earth, the familiar scent of cattle and farmland, the hint of salty breeze with every deep breath, could see the vibrant and vivid tones of green and brown and blue that made up the earth and the sea from nearly every place, could hear the distant melody of birdsong and the occasional snort of a cow or horse and the clucks of chickens...
Rubbing his jaw and idly frowning at the dark stubble that was just starting to tickle under his gloved fingertips, Jay stopped, scuffing the dirt as he looked across the property he had wanted to purchase. He had done some research into it already, and what his eyes told him only confirmed what he had known before. It was reasonably big for one person with plenty of room for farming or cattle. The soil wasn't the richest, but it was grow-able to be sure. It was a bit more in the middle of things then he would like, but not nearly as close to the main area of the village as the coastal ones, and larger then the ones by the lakeside had been, though certainly he did envy the closeness to the woods those would have offered. Still, this farm had been a rather nice spot, about middling distance from seemingly most everything while still being outside of the proper area of the village. He wasn't too far from the lake either... too far to give the plants any good fresh water that wasn't brought up from the well, but close enough to see it and the towering oak that marked it from here. He could certainly learn to pick up fishing easily....
Sighing, Jay let his hand drop as he settled himself in patiently until the mayor should arrive. First impressions were good, but he still had almost nothing except the couple of tools he had kept as a gift from his old boss and the few coins in his pocket, most of which would go towards this farm if this exchange went through. Pretty much all of it, actually, the property would cost him just about everything in saving. Jay hadn't picked the cheapest lot. Not to mention no animals yet, nor any real crops, though it seemed some of his work was already done for him, some of the land freshly tilled. He had a long road ahead of him, but already he was mentally planning it, eyes closing as he thought about where to start in this venture.
