Date & Time: April 1st (Year 1) | Morning Sitting around and waiting wasn’t exactly Amélie’s favorite past time. No. Usually you’d find here walking or running about in search of something to do. But now that she was in a different land from her own she found herself grounded; sitting on top of one of the many boxes that littered the outside of the veterinary clinic. Her veterinary clinic. The thought made her smile.
Her own place.
Never in her life had she thought that she would be able to afford something like what stood before her. The clinic might not be the biggest in the world, nor the most advanced, but it certainly held a cute sort of charm that she couldn't quite understand. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was how nice and laid-back the entire valley seemed. Maybe it was the cheap price at which she had bought it. After all, there's nothing more charming than low prices.
Still, it begged the question of the clinic's integrity. Could it be that the clinic itself was in shambles? The more she thought about it, the more her mind wondered. And it only took a few minutes before she was lost in her daydreams, music blaring loudly from her wireless earbuds. She rested her chin on her palm, sighing dreamily at what was to come. Though, a nagging feeling in the back of her head told her she was forgetting something.

Today was a rather exciting day for the small Tranquil Island. As a mainly ranching town, they were in dire need of a veterinarian and everyone (and their animals) seemed to be walking on egg shells for what felt like an eternity. The young mayor had just come from an important town meeting and glanced down at the watch on her left wrist, gasping quite loud and startling some nearby woodland creatures. "Oh my! I'm a bit late. That's not like me!" Vivian Sherman, appointed mayor of Tranquil Island, prided herself on her timeliness but clearly today was not a day she could feel prideful.
Hoping that the new, highly esteemed veterinarian hadn't been waiting around for very long after her long flight, Vivian began high tailing it from town square to the veterinary clinic. Thankfully with the town being quite small, getting anywhere on foot took less than a couple minutes. The cool spring breeze catching her thin strands of white hair, her pace was almost a trot as she came up on the clinic, purple orbs finding themselves locked on to the short haired woman sitting atop a pile of boxes. "I am so sorry for my tardiness, miss Blanchard!" Her voice was breathy and frantic, not realizing that the woman had wireless earbuds in her ears and probably didn't even hear her. Regardless, Vivian began rummaging through her light leather satchel hanging from her right shoulder so snag the set of keys to the clinic, her clipboard and a ballpoint pen.

Date & Time: April 1st (Year 1) | Morning Yeah, she could see it all. The clinic, the patients; healing the sick and making the owners happy. Hell, maybe she’d go to a farm and work on a cow or two… maybe meet a passionate farmer–
Na.
Amélie grabbed her face and shook her head at the thought. Na. Nope. Not happening. That would be incredibly soon. Too soon. She stood immediately and made her way to the clinic’s doors. No, not a lover. Not a partner. A friend. That is all she wanted – a friend. But why did her face feel hot? She grabbed at the door handle, pulling at it harshly. And as she did, she was met with an opposing force as the doors violently shook. Locked. Immediately, that nagging feeling became clear:
She was waiting for a key.
“A key. Right, right, I was waiting for– Ah!” she turned away from the door, grumbling to herself over own stupidity but was met with a young woman with short, snowy hair. If her face had been red before, now she probably looked like a tomato.
“OH, HI THERE,” Amélie screamed over her loud music. “WERE YOU THERE THIS WHOLE TIME!? OH, wait…” she removed her earbuds, praying that the woman hadn’t seen her struggle with the door. “Sorry! I honestly didn’t notice you. I was kinda… ahh… yeah,” she laughed awkwardly.
“I’m Amélie. And you are…?”

Vivian was never really known for a loud presence and compared to the woman standing in front of her, she may as well have been standing behind a wall trying to speak. After her apology, she hadn't been noticed and the girl began tugging on the clinic door which was not budging due to the door being locked and keys dangling in Vivian's left hand. As the woman turned around, the volume of her voice almost burst her eardrums as she flinched a little, accidentally dropping the keys on the floor. "Oh I'm sorry yes. I'm here to welcome you to our humble island! My name is Vivian Sherman, standing mayor of the island. You were scheduled to meet with me to purchase the veterinary clinic, I believe." In comparison to Amélie's voice, the snow white haired woman may as well have been a mouse squeaking in it's hole. She bent down as she finished her sentence to pickup the keys from in front of her feet, bending back up to meet the eyes of the new veterinarian.
Transitioning her keys into her right hand, Vivian walked a few steps forward and was now standing side by side with Amélie. Genuine smile on her face, she stuck the silver key into the keyhole and turned the lock. "Shall we take a look before signing documents and exchanging money for the keys? Feel free to take your time and let me know if you have any questions." Taking one step to the right as she entered, her hand extended forward to signal for miss Blanchard to take a look around. The clinic wasn't some pristine, high quality setup like she may have been used to in France. Vivian wanted to make sure she knew what she was getting into by starting on this island. They had been without a veterinarian for so long that most animals had to be transported off the island due to having no option for regular or emergency care. To say the least, the entire town had been talking about the veterinarian flying in today and Vivian had to make sure they gave her time to settle in before bombarding her.

Date & Time: April 1st (Year 1) | Morning “Ah!” Amélie surged forward the slightest bit when she saw the keys hit the floor but fought back the instinctive urge to aid her as the white-haired woman was already well on her way to pick them up. Her voice was soft. So soft, in fact, that it made Amélie very much conscious of her own raspier, booming voice. Was she really that loud? If anything, it didn’t help that Amélie had just scared the woman into dropping her keys.
As she spoke, Amélie had to really focus in on woman’s voice. Her brows raised in surprised at hearing the woman introduce herself as she mouthed a silent “oh”. A standing mayor? She was so young! Amélie had questions but, regardless, chose not to pry and instead nodded along to what Vivian was saying.
“Oh, it’s a pleasure,” Amélie chimed in at her introduction, her voice sounding much calmer than before. She perked up at the suggestion of entering her new home. “Totally. Been dying to check this place out,” she smiled broadly unable to contain her excitement as she took a step in nearly rubbing her hands in anticipation
The clinic itself was in no state of disrepair thankfully, maybe it needed an extra dusting here and there but that was no problem. Though Amélie had to admit that clinic itself was rather small. Like everything else in the world, she thought it’d be bigger, and it left her a bit wanting in the space department. Still, that didn’t stop her. She tentatively reached for one of the doors, looking to Vivian for permission, before jumping in and checking the place out room by room before coming back out to the waiting room.
She stared at Vivian for a bit with a stern look on her face over what she had just seen. After a few more seconds, she spoke up.
“I love it!” she clasped her hands together, her whole face changing into an enthusiastic one and giving the stand-in mayor a wide smile. “If I’m being honest, I thought it was just going to be a broken-down pile of garbage, but this is so much better that I had imagined. It’s small, yeah, but it’s a great starting point.” Amélie may have been a bit crude, but she was genuinely overjoyed.
“Now, where are those papers?”

Still standing just to the right of the entryway, Vivian watched as Amélie excitedly viewed each room, patient rooms, her office, etc. There was also a one bedroom apartment on the upper floor which came with the clinic. The positive words coming from the soon to be new veterinarian's mouth were encouraging and placed a wide smile on Vivian's face. "I am so glad to hear! We've been in need of a veterinarian for quite some time so there are plenty of townsfolk anxious to meet you. I also wanted to mention that there is a one bedroom apartment upstairs for your use or you may rent it out of course. And um, in through the back doors past the kennels are some outdoor paddocks and pastures for larger animals." As she finished speaking, her right hand reached into her satchel, grabbing out a packet of papers which she attached to her clipboard, a pen and the keys still remaining in her left hand.
Walking toward Amélie, her eyes shifted from focus on her to the paperwork signifying going over a few details. Clipboard was spun around to face Amélie so she could read over the information. "If you want to take a look at the paperwork, it's not all that much aside from the normal. You'll sign the deed which will be recorded in Town Hall, the fee of 10,000G will need to be collected from you now and then the keys are yours!" Rhythmic jingling from the keys in her left hand filled the room. Vivian realized she hadn't seen the inside of the clinic in years; it had been that long since the last veterinarian. It was no wonder why the island couldn't thrive. There could be no ranchers with no medical care.

Date & Time: April 1st (Year 1) | Morning At hearing Vivian mention the fact that there was another room at the top of the clinic Amélie’s eyes sparkled. Score! This clinic just kept getting better and better it seemed. She thought she would be staying at inn until she could get fully settled but this definitely beat anything she had in mind. Though, if she was to be honest with herself it did seem too good to be true. Maybe she’d have to ask around the town.
Still, she wasn’t about to look gift horse in the mouth.
“Oh, good. And here I was planning on crashing in the emergency room,” she gave Vivian a smile, taking the clipboard with all the papers. Amélie didn’t mind reading through them. Hell, a good chunk of her life had consisted of paperwork and so would the rest of her life, anyways. Taking the pen from Vivian she signed the deed and handed it back. Then she reached into her pockets to fish out the 10,000G. A small investment for what would hopefully be a long and prosperous life. “And that would be that!” she handed over the money and looked at the keys Vivian had, hesitating a second, before calmly taking them from her hands.
“I honestly don’t know what to say – if there is anything to say,” she chuckled, scratching her face in an embarrassed manner with her finger. “Guess it’s time for me to get unpacking, huh? Thank you, Miss Sherman. I guess I’ll take things from here.”
